Week Three
2nd Lino Print
4th print

5th print

I forgot to take a photo of this piece 🤦 sorry everyone!
6th print

Well this is just brilliant, I KNOW I did this piece…. but I can’t seem to find it anywhere
So what should’ve been here is the next three lino prints onto the pieces of paper. However, as you saw above, I forgot to take photos of the last two and so, I’m not able to show them to you. I made these pieces as I want to improve on the accuracy of placing the lino down so that the lines look less wonky and more coherent. Like I’d explained above, I’d carved into the lino before rolling ink onto it and then printing the lino onto the piece of paper. From the one print that I actually did remember to take, I got to say that I love the quality of the lines and the colours, but if I could improve anything, I would try and make the lines just a little more neater. What I had learnt when creating this piece is to REMEMBER TO TAKE THE PHOTOS SO I HAVE SOME EVIDENCE!
Create relief (collagraph) printing block and prints

Here’s the printing block that I had created and my focus here was to give a lot of texture to it.
First print, which was not very successful to the textures not successfully been printed onto the paper.

A more successful print!
Added some tissue paper before I added some ink.

The second successful print, with the ink on top of the tissue paper.
What we have here is some collagraph relief prints and a printing block that I’d made. I made the printing block and the relief prints as I wanted to experiment with more printing technique, to see which one would work the best for my final outcome later in the project.
I’d made this piece by getting some cardboard, gluing some textured bits to that cardboard, like other pieces of cardboard and bubblewrap. Once that is done, I rolled some ink onto the printing block before pressing it done on a piece of paper to create a print.
I added some tissue paper on one of the prints before I added the printing block to add some variety of colours. With the last two prints, I am really happy with how they turned out as the ink came out really strong and the textures are really obvious.
However, I think I could improve with trying out multiple colours on one print as then, I could see if that is possible or not. What I have learnt throughout this process is that there are techniques that could help me with replicating textures onto prints if that is something which I wanted to do.
Benjamin Zephaniah Drawing

The finished product!
Here is a piece reaction to a poem by Benjamin Zephaniah and my attempt to create a visual representation of it. I made this piece to help further my skills of visual communication, as that is a skill which I want to improve upon and this exercise was a way to help me with that.
I had made this piece by sketching out what I want t draw, based on the poem and then going back with oil pastels, as they are useful in getting as much space covered as possible. In terms of the quality of this piece, I really like how it turned out because the colours and themes of the piece are really strong and that helps elevate the whole thing.
However, I think adding a few more things visually would’ve really helped the piece to communicate the environmental message. I am beginning to learn more about the art is visual communication when I was doing this piece and I look forward to learning more about it.
