Week Two

2 – 3 layer stencil mono – print

Here is the final piece and I got to say that I love the effect on the top, which I managed to achieve by pressing down on the paper while it was on the ink with graphite.

I used a mixture of blue and pink on this effect and in my opinion, it is so pretty and I want to try and replicate that effect again if I have the chance to.

Kae Tempest Drawing Response

The poem by Kae Tempest I believe is about having hope and faith that people will become more conscious about taking care of the environment.

Finished Piece

Here, I was reacting and interpreting a spoken poem created by Kae Tempest. The poem has a strong environmental message, which is really important as it is now urgent for people and corporations to do more to help prevent the earth from becoming some sort of wastelands.

I created this piece by combining markers and coloured pencils and I was conscious of the colour palette. I used two different set of colours for the capitalist, destructive side compared to the natural, calm side, so that I could portray what side is bad and destructive and what side is good and progressive.

Lino Prints

Now for the lino prints based on the artwork of Rodriguez, I started off by doing some concept art just so I can make sure that the piece fits the criteria and also to make sure I actually like the piece. I added the patterns based on Rodriguez’s work in the Tulip petals, leaf and backgrounds just to give the piece some variety.

Now here’s the sketch on the lino, I haven’t added the patterns yet as I was planning to do it after I’d done the first print.

3rd print

Here are a series of prints I had created using lino print making to print onto a piece of paper. I made this series of prints so that I could experiment with laying layers of ink and seeing how different colours would look layered on top of each other.

This kind of techniques allows me to add details in sequence so that I could create different shapes and patterns, if I decided to cut into the lino in-between different layers.

In terms of quality, I really like how the colours came out and the lines are really clear on the piece of paper, however, I would have liked to improve the alignment of the different layers as the lines on the third piece do look a little wonky. I have improved my skills in lino printing and seeing what colours would go well when layered on top of each other.
